Dataran Merdeka or Merdeka Square

Merdeka Square is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. The Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957 at this very place. Dataran Merdeka literally means Independence Square.It is overlooked by the Sultan Abdul Samad Building which was build by the British. There's pictures of the  Prime Ministers of Malaysia there as well as a beautiful view of the brilliantly green field.

You can get there by the Hop On Hop Off tour bus or by getting of the Masjid Jamek stop of the train line and then walking there.
